Recovery means different things to different people. For Sarah Coleman, a Life and Recovery Coach in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, it’s about helping people navigate substance use disorder recovery—not just by quitting substances but by building a life filled with purpose, connection, and joy.

What Does a Recovery Coach Do?

The journey to sobriety isn’t one-size-fits-all. Some people are just starting to question their relationship with alcohol or substances. Others have years of sobriety under their belt but need extra guidance. Sarah meets people wherever they are.

“It provides tools, it provides support. It provides resources, accountability, for anyone at any step of their recovery journey. You could be two days sober, you could be sober curious, or even considering sobriety. What does that look like? You can be 20 years sober, seeking some sort of professional coaching help, assistance, guidance.”

Beyond individual coaching, Sarah believes in the power of uncovering the strengths people already have within themselves.

“A lot of these tools are already in my clients and in the people who are seeking this help, and just being able to kind of uncover that and bring them more joy and happiness into their life is really cool.”

The Community Aspect of Recovery

While personal coaching is a huge piece of recovery, Sarah emphasizes that community plays an equally important role. Having a strong support system—whether through friends, family, or local organizations—can make all the difference.

“I also think an untouched part of recovery coaching can be loved ones of those in recovery. So oftentimes I’ll see clients who have a loved one who’s in recovery and they need some additional support. It could be something like a relapse prevention plan, things that might trigger me, how to be prepared for those kind of things.”

Sarah is involved and recommends some incredible local organizations, businesses and resources that provide both emotional and physical support for people in recovery:

Recovery isn’t just about quitting something—it’s about building something better. Whether through one-on-one coaching, group events, or fitness-based recovery programs, Sarah is helping people in Steamboat Springs find their way to a life they love.
